Concrete slabs may have cracks, high spots or low spots that must be ground or leveled before new flooring goes down. Moisture testing matters too, especially for wood and some vinyl products. Ask each installer how they check flatness and moisture and what happens if problems appear.

Flooring work over the small-job threshold generally requires a contractor license from the Nevada State Contractors Board. Before signing, check an installer's contractor license and ask for proof of liability insurance.
