Much of the valley has caliche, a cemented layer of soil that can sit close to the surface. Breaking through it for tree holes or trenches takes heavy tools and time, and planting into it without drainage can drown roots. Ask how a crew handles caliche and whether that labor is in the quote.
Mineral-heavy water clogs emitters over time, and sun degrades exposed tubing. A drip audit, replacing failed emitters and flushing lines, is often cheaper than a redesign.

Mowing, trimming and cleanup crews often operate under a business license, while building new yards, installing irrigation systems, and laying hardscape generally falls to licensed landscape contractors. In Nevada that is commonly the C-10 landscape contracting classification through the Nevada State Contractors Board.
Before a larger project, confirm a C-10 license on nscb.nv.gov and check that the license limit covers your job size. Small jobs under one thousand dollars that need no permit can be exempt.
Trees that shed heavily next to water create constant cleanup, so coordinate placement with a pool cleaning service if you have one. Dense ground cover, stacked rock and wood piles against the house give scorpions shelter, and scorpion and pest treatment works better when the yard is not working against it.
Fall and early spring are generally kinder to new plants than midsummer, and crews work longer days in milder weather. Summer installs are possible but need careful watering plans.
Many homes in Mountain's Edge, Enterprise and the southwest valley came with minimal builder landscaping, so finishing a backyard there often starts from bare dirt and an existing irrigation stub.

Differences usually come from caliche excavation, plant sizes, rock depth, irrigation materials, removal of old turf or rock, and whether design time is included. Ask each company to list quantities and sizes so you can see whether a lower number reflects smaller plants, thinner rock or fewer drip zones rather than better pricing.
In most associations, yes. Boards typically want a plan showing plants, rock color and any hardscape before work begins. Some publish approved plant lists. Submit early, because review can take time, and keep the written approval with your contract so the landscaper can reference it.
